National security in a disordered world: how should progressives respond?

Hosted by Clive Lewis MP, with initial findings and discussion from Verdant’s National Security Panel.

Join Verdant for a discussion of the challenges in developing fresh approaches to the UK’s national security in a rapidly changing world. The shifting balance of global power, new technologies from drones to AI-assisted targeting, climate change and biodiversity loss are all potential and novel threats to our collective security. How should the UK respond, and is there scope for a national security policy that aligns with values of social and environmental justice? Too often, our debate remains framed by a Cold War that ended more than thirty years ago. What comes next?

  • Macmillan Room, Portcullis House, 1 Parliament Street, London SW1A 2JR

  • Tuesday 30th June, 5-7pm (please arrive to allow enough time to get through Parliament’s security)

Our panel will include the initial findings from Verdant’s large-scale participation exercise, bringing ordinary citizens into the policy debate.

Panel:

  • Ellie Chowns MP

  • Tom Woollmore, Centre for Statecraft and National Security

  • Sacha Deschmuck, former CEO Amnesty UK

  • Sarah Allen, Verdant Associate

Following the roundtable, we invite you to join the Verdant team for drinks at the Westminster Arms, 9&10 Storey's Gate, London, SW1P 3AT. Kindly let us know if you are joining so we have an idea of numbers.
